Lord, teach me to Pray

One time Jesus was praying in a certain place.  When he finished, one of his followers said to him, ‘”Lord teach us to pray as John taught his followers, ‘” (Luke 11:1, NCV).  There is no record that Jesus ever taught his disciples how to preach or that his disciples ever asked Jesus to teach them. It is not happen chance that Jesus was asked by his disciples to teach them to pray.  Prayer can be defined as communication with God.  Good communication in prayer is learning how to speak but also how to listen.  Andrew Murray author of, Lord Teach us to Pray says this about prayer, “Though in its beginnings prayer is so simple that a feeble child can pray, yet it is at the same time the highest and holiest work to which man can rise.  It is fellowship with the Unseen and Most Holy One.”  Murray’s understanding shows us the complexity of prayer.  It is simple yet it is difficult.  It is something that we must learn through practice.  I must admit that I find it difficult to pray.  My mind races to and fro, and distractions come from every side.  I need to continually ask the question that this early disciple asked Jesus, “Lord, teach me to pray.”
