  1. A few years ago we had an afternoon tutoring program and it was successful. We tutored five kindergarten and five first graders who needed extra help. Brad Sartor gave a devotional each week, (many of these children did not know about the Lord – very sad),we served refreshments, and each volunteer worked with one or two children. The program lasted one hour each Monday. Many volunteers are needed for this program. I was still working at the time and it was very stressful for me to be able to leave school and help with tutoring. Julia Taylor, Melvin and Cecil Ford were the volunteers from church along with a few teens. Christie Lowery and Pam Taylor also helped. They are teachers and this is extra work for them after a full day with children. We can do this again but many people will be needed for the program to be a success. You will have to limit the number of children, you have to have teacher cooperation to send work for the children, you have to get permission from parents, and a promise from them to pick up the children on time. The program takes a lot of organizing. The elementary school administration would support the tutoring. This is a wonderful program but needs much support!
